Chris Miller wrote:Hi Stu - Just a couple of questions buddy:
1) If your commander is 'inside'/depolyed with a unit, Does he count as a model for Rank 'Numbers' purposes? e.g. Commander is located in rear rank and there are only 4 other models in the rear rank. Is that 5 models for the purposes of Rank/Depth bonuses.
No
2) It says commanders move last. Does that mean if your Commander is deployed with a unit, it moves and then the commander catches up with it? Sounds silly but ref point 1 above.
Yes! Unless he is a 'Heroic Leader'.
3) Drilled units. How does a Drilled unit charge a unit which is not in it's charge corridor but within it's visibility arc?
Charge corridor is directly ahead. The arc of visibility is a 90 degree cone extending from the unit. Most formed units can do this.
4) Phallanxes (phalanxi?) - It says under the Phalanx rules that a phalanx cannot Turn 90 or 180 degrees and unless it's drilled it cannot march or wheel.......so does this mean the only way a phalanx can change direction is by reforming? also, according to the army list being drilled isn't an option at all anyway!! Can a unit of Greeks start the game in march column and then deploy later into a Phalanx?
Yes, it must reform (with a passed DL test). Later phalanxes, such as Macedonians, get the drilled option. An undrilled phalanx must deploy as one and cannot column march.
5) Are Greek commanders Heroic individuals? I seem to remember you saying they were?
They are, though not in your version.
6) Overlap - do you still get the +1 for overlap even if you don't have the max 4 models overlapping? e.g. unit with frontage 9 v unit with frontage 6. Does the unit with frontage 9 still get the +1 bonus in subsequent combats?
No, the unit must have 4 or more overlapping models.
7) Fleeing due to panicing friends. We had an instance today where:
8) 3 Units were on the board. Greek Phalanx approaching the rear of a Roman unit (10cm away), which was pursuing a Phalanx to it's front (10 cms away). When the Roman unit charged it's target the (broken)phalanx ran away. The Roman unit couldn't catch it so moved a noraml move. However the 'chasing phalanx failed a panic test and ran too. The question is: should it have ran staright towards it's table edge (through the Roman unit in the way) and either stopped 2cm away or through it? or should it have taken a route around the Romans but towards the table edge by the shortest possible route?
You only take this test at the start of your turn in the Orders Phase. If it was from combat, for example, the unit would flee in the same direction as the unit that caused the test or, if not this was not pooible, towards its own table edge.
Cheers
