Welcome to the on-line home of Cardiff Wargames Club, the infamous Viet Taff! Cardiff Wargames Club was founded in 1997 as a GW sponsored club. Independence soon followed and we now have a large core group of players of different ages, experience and wargaming persuasion. Quite simply we play toy soldiers, make scenery and talk about wargaming.
Where do you meet? From 7th January 2010, we meet at our new venue every Thursday in Firestorm Games, 8a Trade Street, off Penarth Road, Cardiff, CF10 5DQ. This is also where we hold our small tournaments. For directions simply goto www.streetmap.co.uk or maps.google.com and type in the postcode above. Please check on our forum to make sure there are no announcements about the venue before making a trip.
When do you meet? We meet 7pm til 10pm, every Thursday.
Do I have to be a member?
No! We are very pleased to welcome people who want to drop in for a one off battle or just to see what's going on. Your first visit is free of charge (applies to the Thursday meeting only) and there is a fee for subsequent meetings. There is a membership scheme which offers savings and benefits.
Is there an age limit?
We only offer our facilities for those aged 16 or over. If you wish to attend and have someone under this age accompanying you then we would ask you to drop us an e-mail for advice.
What do you play?
Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k and Rules of Engagement are our most played systems. We also play other GW games and other systems like Warhammer Ancients, Warmaster Ancients, Rapid Fire, Dirtside, Flames of War and TCG's like Magic: The Gathering and World of Warcraft TCG.
What do I need to bring?
We provide all of the scenery and gaming tables at the club, all you need to bring are your soldiers, dice and rules. A sense of humour is a definite asset as is a willingness to be gracious in defeat! Your miniatures do not have to be painted although everyone knows that they perform better when they are! If you're a TCG'er then simply bring along your deck. A copy of the Rules and Regulations can be viewed here.
What does "Viet Taff" mean?
Viet Taff is a nickname given to Welsh ultra-nationalists by British Army squaddies. The name was adopted by members that attend WPS tournaments for a bit of fun. We have no political agenda and certainly do not shun non-Welsh people (even if they're English!). Indeed our committee is made up of three nationalities and we have members from five different countries. We love to slay all on the field of battle!
How can I contact you?
