My name is Ian; I have being collecting and painting 28mm toy soldiers for around a decade. I have recently become interested in collecting Napoleonic Miniatures. I have decided to start my collection with Peninsular War, Highlanders. The main reason is that I generally go for something that no one else is collecting, and secondly a distant relative fought in the Gordon Highlanders in WW2. I have his cap badge and an off cut of his kilt. A quick search revealed that the 92 Gordon Highlanders did actually fight in the Peninsular Wars and have "Fuentes de Onoro" as a battle honour.

So decision made another search to find the order of battle for Fuentes de Onoro reveals that the 92 Gordon Highlanders were in the first division third brigade. Currently the only plastic miniatures for the highlanders are made by Victrix Miniatures. The purchase of a flank company and a centre company was completed; this will give me 120 models. Not a bad starting point for just under £40.

The Order of Battle for my selected Division is as follows:

1st Division, 3rd Brigade -  Major General Howard’s Brigade

1/50th Foot (597)
1/71st Foot (497)
1/92nd Foot (764)
3/95th Rifles (76)

I am going to assemble the flank company first, undercoat and start painting. Then as a side project assemble the centre company. So my first goals are as follows:

1.      Assemble undercoat and paint the flank company by the 31 December 2009.

2.       Assemble the centre company by the 31 December.

Hopefully this will give me enough models to use the rules included in the Victrix box, so my third objective is:

3.      To play a game with the models during the week between Christmas and New Year.
