Week Four has come and gone and I seem to be doing a “Groundhog Day” report this week.
The second box of miniatures is still sitting on the painting table pleading with me to get some paint on them!
I am pleased to report the eight Highlanders are painted and based, just need to find an appropriate static grass and apply that to the base and then varnish – although the cold weather might just push that back a little bit!
Disaster struck when upon completing the 8 Highlanders I decided to “dip” them, the result was less than the one I desired and I spent an evening undoing and redoing the work on these eight models!
The result is good and I am now quite happy, however the remaining 24 are unlikely to be going through the same process.

I have put three basic colours on the Rifle company, these will be the next set of models that will get my attention, so that’s the Christmas holiday taken up, however there are only four so it should not take too long!
Our inaugural game of Black Powder still on for the 30th of December at Firestorm Games, we are currently looking at about 3 players per side, French vs. Brits. No specific re-enactment just a bit of a game for giggles, and to get used to the rules. I think most of us will have a fairly large contingent of unpainted models, and a fair chunk will be infantry.

I have ordered the Victrix Light company heads for the 71st Highland Light Infantry, so I am just waiting for those to arrive. Once they have arrived and are assembled this will mean that I will have the complete 3rd Brigade of the 1st Division. The 71st wore a normal shako, with a band of red and white material around the base of the shako. So I have a bit of painting there especially as there will be around 32 of these to do.

So to plan out the coming week – albeit Christmas week!

1.       I need to sort out some static grass; a quick look at what Rob has to offer at Firestorm Games should sort that out on Wednesday Evening. I am looking for a fairly dried out effect, and quite long.

2.       I have the 95th Rifles to complete, as I have said there are only 4 of these so they should come together quite quickly. I am going to base these as skirmishers, individually on their own bases. Ideally these would be completed by the 30th December.

3.       The remaining 24 Highlanders, I stupidly assembled these as Flank company so they have the wrong arms, I am going to need to either purchase a centre company or attempt to remove the arms of the existing models and replace them with spare arms from other sets. I am going to give the latter a go first. I will report back on how successful this has been next time.

4.       Once the Light Company heads have arrived I will start the assembly of these with the remaining box of Victrix models that I have.

A bit further out I want to magnetise the bases of these models so I am looking for ways of doing this.
This site http://www.productsforwargamers.com/  seems to have a lot of the stuff needed so after the Christmas period I will probably be putting an order in. I don’t know if they go to the Penarth Crusade It might be worth a look when I am there!

A number of the guys involved in this project have started talking about the Artillery and Cavalry elements of their forces. There are currently are no British plastic sets for either of these categories, so this will mean purchasing metals, the Perry Miniatures look great, so again in the New Year there will probably be a purchase of some of these.

Next update will include a report of our first game and hopefully some piccies if we can get our act together!
